Another Paper Quilt

We are headed to visit my grandmother this weekend, so I whipped up a little belated Mother's Day gift for her. It's really cute - a 4 x 6" wood frame I picked up at Target for like $5 or $6 bucks. I used more of that K&Company Madeline paper and quilted it on my sewing machine. I added a sentiment from PTI's Quilted Sampler Sentiments set, some ribbon, and a button. Viola!

Unity for You

Unity has some pretty neat-o stamps. Some of them are a little far from my usual style, but I am enjoying trying out different looks with them.
This is a stamp from the April Kit-of-the-Month. I stamped it onto cream card stock and added some color with Copics. I cut it out with some small detail scissors and adhered it with some foam dots. The sentiment is from SU's Great Friend set and I used a 3/4" circle punch to create the scallop on the side since my scallop edge punch didn't have the width of scallops I was looking for. I am really digging the wide grosgrain right now ... must try and play with it more! :-)

Quick Sunny Card

Here's a quick little card I made the other day. I love the Scattered Showers set designed by Dawn McVey for Papertrey. It has some really fun sentiments and is pretty versatile to boot. I made some simple cards to use as prizes for games at our mother-daughter tea the other weekend and I thought this sentiment was pretty all occasion. I stamped a cute umbrella, handle and sentiment and mounted it on a card base. Easy peasy!

Purple Flowers Swap Card

Hi folks! Here's a little card I made for one of my monthly swap groups. I am terribly behind in my monthly swaps right now. Only 9 more days of school before exams and so *hopefully* I will have time to play with all these great images I need to color. As far as the supplies for this card - I know the image is from SU, but I have no idea who the maker of the designer paper is. Otherwise, I used PTI Kraft card stock, SU! Chocolate Chip card stock, Copic markers and some American Crafts ribbon. In hindsight, I wished I had used a brown card base, but it was too late and I was running low. Overall, I like how this little card turned out.

A Paper Quilt for Mom

Happy Monday! Only a one more "regular" Monday at work before we start exams. Summer is sooo close! I am actually transferring schools next year, so I have a ton of things to do before the end of that last teacher workday! Anyway, here's a gift that I made for my mom for Mother's Day. My mom taught me to sew back when I was in high school. I made my first quilt early in my college years and have been stitching ever since. Sewing and quilting has always been a lot of fun for me and I have the fabric stash to prove I've been at it for awhile! :-) (Speaking of sewing - I had my first major sewing accident this weekend - Saturday, while quilting some book covers, I stitched right through my finger! Let's just say, I do not recommend doing this! I did survive and, thankfully, required no professional medical attention.)

When Papertrey released their Quilters Sampler set I knew I had to have it. For this project, I used K&Company's gorgeous Madeline paper pad to cut 1-1/2" squares. I then used the 5X7 "fake" photo that came in the frame I purchased at Michael's as a guide for placing the quilt squares. I stuck them down with some Scor-Tape and then used my sewing machine to "quilt" them on the diagonal. I stamped the sentiment from Quitlers Sampler in Memento Rich Cocoa on some white card stock before tearing around the edges and layering it on a torn piece of the Madeline paper. The ribbon is from Michael's as well. I actually put the glass under the paper quilt so I wouldn't lose it or break it, but left the frame open so the bow wouldn't be smooshed under the glass. I really like how it turned out and it was a quick and simple gift to make as well.

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all the moms out there are having a great Mother's Day so far. We had lunch at a German restaurant with my husband's family and later this evening we are grilling steaks for my mom before we watch the Carolina Hurricanes game! (My mom is a huge fan and its playoff season!)

I made a simple card for my mom ... I used some patterned paper I picked up at the craft store and added some card stock from SU! along with some ribbon and a button from PTI. I will post some of the gifts I made later this week.

Still alive!

Hey all! I am still alive! I had a great trip to CA for our DECA conference last week and my students did well in their competitions. It's been nuts trying to catch up at work since I have been back, but I have had time to craft a few things in preparation for Mother's Day and also a few swap card sets. I will take some photos in the AM when the light is better and get back in the posting saddle! :-)
